Many current artists work with combining different media. Explore different combinations of media in this class that will interest and challenge children 8-12 years.  

GLASS FUSION

Learn to cut and fuse glass into beautiful finished items. Participants will create two 4" tiles that can be used as coasters or sun catchers.

ART WORKSHOPS FOR ADULTS
WE WELCOME TEENS 15 AND UP IN ALL ADULT CLASSES 

HAT DESIGN AND MAKING (3 classes)
with Lilli Moffit
In this course students are introduced to millinery material, steam blocking and hand sewing techniques that will enable them to create custom hat.  Students will have access to variety of hat blocks and will learn how to free form drape the hat on a head block using steam. The course emphasizes learning the traditional methods for finishing the hats professionally.  Individual style is encouraged! Registration Form

DRAWING FUNDAMENTALS 
Learn basic drawing techniques through a series of studio sessions with clear goals. Gesture, contour line, value and shading will be some of the essential elements we will cover using pencil and charcoal. Great for all levels, whether you are a complete beginner or seeking to refresh and develop your existing skills.      Registration Form

INTERMEDIATE DRAWING (6 classes)

This class is for students with basic drawing skills who would like to take things to the next level – or –  for those who have taken Fundamentals of Drawing and would like to continue building drawing skills.

PASTELS (4 classes)
with Suellen Cupp
Learn basic pastel techniques and develop a personal vocabulary of skills. In the first two classes we will build techniques, and then in the final two classes you will develop a personal series of self-proposed drawings in soft pastels.  Registration Form

WATERCOLOR BASICS AND BEYOND

Explore various watercolor techniques while creating your own works of art. This class is great for beginners and those with previous experience who want to brush up on their skills. Registration Form

OIL PAINTING (8 classes)

Join local artist Erik Holland to capture the winter and emerging spring colors and light. Painting will be done both outside (weather permitting) and in the studio from photographs. Great for beginners or the more experienced.  Registration Form

HAND BUILT CERAMICS  
with Jacy Robinson
Explore hand building and glazing techniques while creating several one-of-a-kind pieces of artwork. From sculptural to functional, beginners to the more experienced, everyone will enjoy getting their hands dirty in this fun class. Sign up for one or both sessions. Registration Form

RAKU FIRED CERAMICS  (2 classes)
with Jacy Robinson
Learn the Raku firing process while creating hand built pieces.  Raku is a type of uniquely patterned ceramics where glazed ceramic pieces are removed from the kiln while glowing hot and quickly placed in a sealed amongst combustible materials. As the materials burn, the piece traps the carbon that has been formed, creating the spectacular look that is unique to Raku. The results are absolutely beautiful.  This class will be split between two Saturdays. 
Day 1 = Creation! Jacy will guide you as you build your clay piece, from pots and vases to sculpture. 
Day 2 = Glaze and Fire. Glaze your piece and participate in the firing process.

BURDEN BASKET WORKSHOP (1 class)
with Mary Lee Fulkerson  

Learn how to make a contemporary Burden Basket, using the twining technique, in this special one-day workshop for beginning and intermediate basket makers. One of the earliest baskets produced in the Great Basin and elsewhere, this basket was once indispensable to a culture. Today, its beautiful sculptural form evokes thoughts of long ago, of other traditions, and of rich symbolism: walking freely and joyfully on the earth, and bearing one’s burdens with grace and dignity. Students will learn a double-twine start and how to shape this special basket, choosing from a wide variety of materials. Registration Form

Explore creative ways to make your home feel great. Using the design elements as our steppingstone, we will discuss how you can start to create a harmonious interior environment. Bring your inspirational photos to class.

VSAN is offering after-school programs at the above schools.  
To reserve a place, we need a signed registration form and payment.

CLASSES FOR ADULTS WITH DEVELOPMENTAL DISABILITIES
Free Class, $5 monthly fee for supplies

RENO: VSA arts of Nevada is offering weekly art classes for adults 18 and older with developmental disabilities. The program is FREE, however from this fall, we need to charge a minimal supplies fee of $5 per month per participant. The Tuesday program will be on-going at the Lake Mansion located on 250 Court Street at Arlington. Please call 826-6100 to reserve your space for this free workshop program.

SPARKS: LEISURE WITHOUT LIMITS ARTS AND CRAFT CLASS
The City of Sparks Parks & Recreation Department and VSA arts of Nevada have teamed up to provide an ongoing Arts & Crafts class for any adult with a developmental delay.  The classes are held on Thursdays at Larry D Johnson Community Center.  The program is FREE, however from this fall, we need to charge a minimal supplies fee of $5 per month per participant. REGISTRATION AND PAYMENT
Classes are limited in size and are offered on a 'first come first served" basis. We accept payment by Cash, Check (to VSA arts of NV), and Credit Card (Visa, Mastercard & Discover). Payment is due before class starts. Pre-registered participants needing to withdraw from a class may have their payment refunded, less a $5 administrative cost, until five business days before the first session of class  No refunds thereafter. 

Scholarships are available.  Download, print and send in scholarship application with registration form. You will be contacted regarding the status of your scholarship.
